EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers have hired Bill Scott as assistant general manager. Scott spent the past four seasons as GM of the Oklahoma City Barons, Edmontons AHL affiliate. The Barons made the Calder Cup playoffs all four years that Scott was in charge. "I would like to welcome Bill and his family to Edmonton," Oilers GM Craig MacTavish said in a statement. "Bill has done an exceptional job managing all facets of the Barons day to day operations and has played a large part in their success over the past four years." Scott, a 33-year-old from Unionville, Ont., will be responsible for player and staff contract negotiations, scheduling, salary arbitration, salary cap management and day-to-day administrative duties. He will also serve the clubs liaison to the NHL regarding matters pertaining to the collective bargaining agreement. He replaces Ricky Olczyk, who was offered another position within the Oilers organization but declined.
