RICHMOND, Va. -- Kevin Harvick pulled away on a restart with 47 laps to go and ended Chase Elliotts two-race winning streak in NASCARs Nationwide Series with a dominating victory early Saturday at Richmond International Raceway. Harvick led 202 of the 250 laps in a race delayed nearly 3 1/2 hours at the start by rain Friday night. The victory was the 41st of his career in the series, and his record-extending seventh at 0.75-mile Richmond. Elliott, the Georgia high-schooler and son of racing great Bill Elliott, was looking to win his third consecutive race and pad his points lead, but managed to do just the latter when Harvick was too fast. "I think he just outdrove me a little bit, honestly" Elliott said. "Some of it was me. I kind of let him get too far out in front of me." The pair finished nearly seven seconds ahead of third-place finisher Kyle Busch, and Harvick said Elliott, a teammate at JR Motorsports, has had a positive impact that helped produce the 1-2 finish. "He pushes us to be better by trying different things," Harvick said. "Hes as good as they get and a lot of fun to be around." Busch never really contended, but said his team made steady gains all race long. "The racing was sort of a struggle for us to start with," he said. Kyle Larson, awarded the pole for Saturdays Sprint Cup race based on practice speeds when qualifying for that race was rained out earlier Friday night, finished fourth, with pole-sitter Brian Scott fifth. Scott, the pole-sitter, led the first 239 laps here last September before getting passed by Brad Keselowski with 11 laps to go. Scott led the first 43 laps Friday night and stayed in the top 10 all night, but with Harvick repeatedly opening up huge margins, second place seemed like the prize at stake. Elliott took that away as the only car that could challenge Harvick at the end. The ending was tougher for Elliott Sadler, who had worked his way up to third with some nifty work by his pit crew, but when the race went back to green with 54 to go, he got turned around in Turn 2. It looked like Trevor Bayne nudged Regan Smith, who then nudged Sadler. The Emporia native finished sixth. Elliotts points lead grew from 13 to 19 over Smith, who finished eighth. The race also marked the Nationwide Series debut for Daniel Suarez, who has impressed in the K&N Pro Series East Tour. He drove for Joe Gibbs Racing, starting 12th and finishing 19th. The former England player was on Sky Sports News HQ to discuss the national sides current injury concerns, with Jones under pressure from Premiership clubs after several stars were sidelined following high-intensity training sessions.Wasps Sam Jones broke his right leg and suffered ankle damage during a judo session, with the flanker ruled out for five months, while Bath winger Anthony Watson sustained a broken jaw during a training session last Tuesday. Most recently, Exeter claimed that England told them Jack Nowell only had a minor injury but a subsequent scan revealed a nine-to-10 centimetre tear in his thigh. In the wake of criticism from club bosses, Jones has agreed to a meeting with the 12 Premiership teams to discuss player welfare. Australia coach Michael Cheika defended Eddie Jones training methods following the news of Sam Jones broken leg Will Greenwood says he sympathises with the clubs, but believes the injuries are part of the game, and that Englands recent luckless run is an unfortunate coincidence rather than the fault of the England coaching staff.Ive seen it up close and personal, said the Sky Sports pundit.Theyre not long sessions, theyre not being flogged, theyre not kept out on a field on their feet for hours and hours, but [Jones] wants to replicate Test-match intensity - as close to that as possible - within training camps.Which is exactly what Clive Woodward used to do; make the training so unbelievably hard that when you land on a Saturday... youre accustomed to that heart rate spiking, that physical and mental pressure being applied. Now, [Jones] has been in charge for a year, there have been some injuries in previous camps, but I think what happens is everything is focused on it when you hhear a broken jaw, a broken leg, a torn quad.ddddddddddddI believe its an unfortunate coincidence of an accumulation of players being crocked at the same time.Greenwood says communication between the RFU and the Premiership is better today than its ever been, and urged all involved to maintain that relationship in order for England to compete with the All Blacks at the top of world rugby.I think the relationship between the Rugby Football Union and the English clubs, the Premiership, has grown fantastically well over the past four or five years, said Greenwood. Sean Fitzpatrick thinks the current New Zealand team is the best ever Its allowed the club sides to develop with a huge amount of financial support from the governing body, and with that support they buy the right to get access to the players.Which is critical if you have got any chance of keeping up with New Zealand and the southern hemisphere sides. Weve overtaken two or three - were No 2 in the world - but New Zealand are like a club side, they spend so much time together. The positions they play for in their provinces is dictated from up on high, so they have real control over the players. We have a position where players are riding two horses throughout the whole season, theyve got their club colours and theyve got their international colours. So I think its really important that these training sessions do take place, that Eddie Jones gets a little bit more time with the players. The last Test matches these guys played would have been in June, a fantastic tour of Australia where we won three-nil, but the next Test match after that is November the 12th. Its a considerable time to be away from each other.Click on the video to watch the full interview with Will Greenwood on Sky Sports News HQYou can watch Englands tour of Bangladesh, plus Premier League football and the British Masters on Sky Sports.
